Gottfried Bammes『定本 基本の動物デッサン』, Okubo Yu, PIE International, 2018. This is a book that illustrates how to draw animals with 227 illustrations.
There is an English edition titled “Complete Guide to Drawing Animals.” However, if you were to translate the Japanese edition's title into English, it would be "Basic Animal Drawing - Authoritative Edition"
Numerous illustrations progressively explain how to draw animals. There are 227 diagrams, roughly covering about 164 pages out of the total 233 pages. Most of these drawings were newly created for the illustrations based on the author's animal sketches. The swift, broad brushstrokes of the watercolors capture the shape of each animal part. The pencil drawings of the skeletons feature hatching that clearly shows the shape of the surfaces. By following these diagrams when sketching, you will develop the ability to draw animals correctly and efficiently.
This book covers the following: The fundamental approach to sketching animals and drawing. Understanding the animal as a whole, including its skeleton and movement. Detailed explanations focusing on specific parts like legs, head, and torso. Finally, examples of drawing animals in full, including fur and patterns. The book concludes at the end: 「画家としてのスキルを高めるには、本書で教えられたことを越えていく必要がある。」(p227) (“To elevate your skills as an artist, you must go beyond what is taught in this book.”) .Beyond this book, the next stage awaits—deeper anatomy, the realm of fine art, or fields like illustration and animation.

When I drew an illustration of a wildcat in February 2023, I practiced drawing felines by referring to the illustrations in this book.
